I had a strange dream last night/this morning. I’m not quite sure how to interpret it…
For some reason, I had taken up competitive swimming again, or I was at a pool (probably UMSL’s pool) during the Division 1 Nationals Swim Meet (Why it was being held at UMSL, I have no clue - especially since UMSL is a D2 school). The only teams to have made it to Nationals were Mizzou, UMSL, and Rolla. UMSL wanted me to swim in Breaststroke in the Medley Relay. I walked in right after the prelims race had completed (Brother Rick was the Breaststroker). They told me to go back to the hotel to rest (no, it was the Paris Hilton Hotel).
Back at the Hotel, there were two wizened elderly gentlemen just starting a game of chess. I picked up a magazine showing a number of common opens and noticed the open I usually strive for was refered to as “The Fools Open”. I was a little pissed off, but before I had a chance to read why they called it the Fools Open, I began to watch the game. For some reason, I knew that the game was important, like a Bobby Fischer game. Each player started play bringing out his knight. The one player’s knight chased the other player’s knight around the board, until the player doing the pursuit smiled, moved a bunch of his pieces at once, removing the other players pieces and declaring checkmate. The opposing player protested and I was also in awe, but then concluded that the first player had used a Bishop’s Open (I remembered Mr. Loser using it on me when I first learned to play.) I told the player as much. He pressured me and said - “Do you think or do you know?” I didn’t like being on the spot, but since he backed me into a corner I told him that I was pretty sure that the first player was correct.
I then realized that I needed to get back to the swimmeet, but my ride refused to get off of the couch. I eventually found my way back to my hotel room, an my dog was there - Barking. I found some keys and drove back to the pool, only to find out that I had missed my event.
Any shade tree dream analyst, feel free to respond…
that’s how it reads to me too
