  • I’ve had another request for me to use my psychic powers to predict the powerball numbers for tomorrow’s drawing.  Unfortunately ever since Obama has taken office and made his promise to “put science back in its rightful place” I haven’t been feeling very psychic. That or it might have to do with Venus’ location in the sky relative to Orion’s belt, or lack there of.  I also have the legal ramifications of predicting powerball numbers to deal with.
  • Two days off of school wasn’t quite enough for my children.  Danielle and Justin are fighting off some nasty virus. Justin has managed to go to school; Danielle, not so much.  I hope she gets better soon – she has her first basketball game tomorrow and I am the coach.  I may have to make her skip even if she is feeling better just so I don’t infect my whole team.
  • Why do some people think a urinal is as good place to spit out your gum? If I were a janitor, that would really piss me off… so to speak.  I can almost understand some A-hole doing it at a gas station, but this was at work.
  • I can always tell if new people who follow me on twitter are spammers.  It’s actually pretty easy.  If they are following me they are spammers.
  • Via Pharyngula: The administrators at Union Public School Independent District No. 9 of Oklahoma have harrassed and violated the civil rights of a young woman named Brandi Blackbear because … she is accused of witchcraft. They say she used a magic spell to make one of her teachers sick.
  • I think I may have a Micro Black Hole in my stomach.  Anyone who has ever eaten lunch with me would likely agree.
  • Fun Fact: Depeche Mode the only band in this weeks 10+1 that has more than a one word band name (I don’t count “The”).

Admission

I intentionally keep library books past their due date so that I can pay fines and therefore support the public library system.

Enhancing annoyances

Our IS department has switched from an annoying message every time you log in telling you your password is expiring to sending annoying daily emails telling you your password is expiring AND giving you and annoying message every time you log in.

What is the point in having passwords expire every 90 days if you are going to start annoying people to change their passwords after 75 days?  Do you at least get the bonus 15 days on the next period — no, of course not.

How the hell
are you supposed to get them out

My bottle of Advil has a warning that says – Do Not Use if seal under bottle cap imprinted with “SEALED for YOUR PROTECTION” is broken or missing.

The problem is, I can’t figure out an easy way to get the Advil out without breaking the damn seal.

Blog Shorts…

  • I heard the Dresden Dolls on the radio this morning on the way to work.  I didn’t think that would ever happen.  Okay, it was college radio, but still.
  • I’m done with a less than friendly encounter with another office.  Over the course of the last week, it went something like this:
    • Them: There is a problem with your stuff
    • Me: Okay, I’ll look at it
    • Me [later]: I’ve seen similar stuff before.  Please show it to this group in your office.
    • Them: Okay, so you are handling it.
    • Me: Um NO, it’s not my problem…and they are in your office
    • Them: So you can talk to them about it?
    • Me [forwarding and cc’ing]: Other group -I think this is your problem
    • Other Group: Oh yes, definitely our problem.
    • Me: Great, so you can handle it from here
    • Them (the original them): No, I think you should still manage it, we don’t have the bandwidth.
    • Me [to my boss]: WTF.
    • My Boss: *^*&^  @#%$$! $^@#^%@%
    • Me: So I’m done with this now?
    • My Boss: Yes, I’ll talk to them about it.
  • I appreciate John McCain being a war hero and all, but as soon as he supported the bill in congress to allow our government to use the same torture techniques that were used on him, and claim they aren’t torture, I think he loses all rights to bring his enduring the torture as something special.
  • I get A LOT of email from the Obama campaign.  In a way it’s probably nice to be kept informed and see the human side of the campaign, but they always seem to have the little tag line at the bottom requesting a donation of $5 or more.
  • Perhaps I’m just warped, but with Democrats/liberals often being referred to as a certain part of a woman’s anatomy, did we really need the Democratic ticket to be OB?  I can see the Republican bumper sticker now…
